Preparing and Planning the perfect Family session!
Family photos are more than just pictures—they’re tangible memories, little glimpses into the love, laughter, and connection that make your family yours. Whether it’s the way your child reaches for your hand or the way they burst into giggles when you whisper something silly, these are the moments you’ll want to remember forever.
But let’s be real—getting the whole family ready for a photo session can feel overwhelming. That’s why I’m here to help! Here are some tips to make your session with Kayla Mae Co. relaxed, fun, and stress-free (even if bedtime gets pushed a little later than usual).
1. Timing is Everything (Yes, Even Past Bedtime!)
Most of my sessions take place during golden hour—that magical time just before sunset when the light is soft, warm, and flattering. But I know what you’re thinking… “But my kids go to bed early!”
Here’s the thing—kids are resilient, especially when they’re having fun. A later bedtime for one night won’t throw off their routine, and trust me, it’s worth it for the dreamy, golden images we’ll capture!
💡 Tips for a Successful Sunset Session:
• Push naptime back by 30-60 minutes on the day of your session to help them stay happy longer.
• Have a slower-paced afternoon to keep them from getting overstimulated.
• Bring non-messy snacks to keep little bellies happy before we start.
• Hype up the session so they’re excited—tell them it’s a fun adventure!
Coordinating outfits for the whole family can be stressful, but I take the guesswork out of it! When you book a session with me, you get full access to my client wardrobe, filled with timeless, neutral-toned pieces that photograph beautifully.
For the best results though if you don’t have a session booked with me and unsure about what to wear?
• Choose soft, natural colors like creams, earth tones, and pastels.
• Avoid large logos, bright neon colors, and anything too matchy-matchy.
• Keep it comfortable—flowy dresses for moms, cozy layers for dads, and soft, breathable outfits for little ones.
I’m always happy to help with styling so you can feel confident and effortless on the day of your session!
3. Keep the Vibes Light & Fun
The best family photos happen when everyone is relaxed and in the moment. There’s no need for stiff poses or forced smiles—we’ll play, explore, and capture real connection.
💡 Ways to Make the Session Stress-Free:
• Let go of perfection—kids will be kids, and that’s okay!
• Play with your little ones, tickle them, twirl them, snuggle them. The more love you show, the more beautiful your photos will be.
• Trust the process—I’ll guide you into natural, flattering moments that feel like you.
4. Bring the Essentials
To keep little ones happy and comfortable, consider bringing:
✔️ A favorite lovey or small comfort item
✔️ Light snacks (think pretzels or dried fruit—nothing too messy!)
✔️ A neutral-toned blanket for cozy family moments
✔️ Water bottles to stay hydrated
Let’s Create Something Beautiful Together

So take a deep breath, soak it all in, and know that I’ll be there to guide you every step of the way. Let’s make magic together! ✨
